At the much anticipated DevDay 2025, OpenAI introduced its new features. From tools, agent kits to models. These OpenAI new features mark as a pivotal step in AI industry. Why you may wonder? Because now AI is not confined to just being a tool, there is a whole ecosystem. Let’s check out the major announcements that took place on this year on DevDay 2025.
Apps Inside ChatGPT & the Apps SDK
This was one of the biggest unveilings and my favorite one, so we’re going to discuss this first. Apps can now run inside ChatGPT. This means you don’t have to switch up tabs to do one task, ChatGPT in no time is going to become an all-in-one-platform. OpenAI launched Apps SDK(in preview) which would allow developers to build conversational apps, inside ChatGPT.
For instance, in one demo they showed how a user could use Canva to design a poster and then ask ChatGPT to convert it into a pitch deck, all in one chat interface. How cool? We already can get done so much in so little time with AI, imagine how much time this move is going to save us.

Furthermore, The Verge reported, that in the beginning apps like Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, and Zillow will be supported. And then in later stages, OpenAI will open app submissions. Here the apps submitted will be reviewed and the ones selected will be mentioned in the roll out directory. Not for free, obviously, monetization details will follow.
From this one move ChatGPT is going to become a conversational operating system, rather than just being a chatbot. Additionally here are some stats from OpenAI’s DevDay page– There are over 4 million developers who have built with OpenAI and they get to access 800M+weekly ChatGPT users.
AgentKit: Tools for Building Production Agents
OpenAI introduced AgentKit. Let’s understand what exactly is it- Agentkit is a full stack tool kit which actually helps developers build, deploy AI agents.
Breakdown of What a AgentKit Includes:
- Agent Builder: It’s a visual canvas which is used for designing multi-agent workflows with the help of drag and drop nodes.
- Connector Registry: It’s a central place for admins to manage how tools and data connect across different OpenAI products.
- ChatKit: This is to embed agent UIs into external apps or products.
Additionally, OpenAI stated that AgentKit builds on its earlier responses API and Agents SDK. What this does is it helps developers to work on things that are more important and faster.
New Model Releases: Sora 2, GPT-5 Pro & More
Sora 2 (Video Generation)
OpenAI Launches Sora 2 and Sora App to take on TikTok. With the learnings from Sora, OpenAI is aiming to change the same drawback with Sora 2. Sora 2 is better at following laws of physics, which is going to make the videos more realistic.
GPT-5 Pro & Model Innovations
OpenAI then continued its model push by integrating GPT-5 Pro. This is going to be into the API as a model designed for tasks where precision is critical. What sets it apart from the rest as of this moment is the fact it uses dynamic routing in its model’s architecture. So what it does is it chooses the model for the work based on the prompt it has been given(fast vs deep reasoning).
Other Model Updates
- Gpt-Realtime-Mini– This is a lightweight voice/ real-time model.
- Gpt-Image-1-Mini– This is going to a be cheaper, cost efficient image generation model.
Codex, Enterprise Tools & SDK Upgrades
Codex is a robust AI coding agent which was integrated directly into ChatGPT, back in May 2025, it started reshaping the future of software coding. And just a few months later, OpenAI upgraded Codex to be more enterprise ready. Here are what the enhancements are- tighter integration with Slack, enterprise controls, and SDK improvements.
These improvements are going to help enterprises to get better in managing code generation. At the same time, they get to operate in secured and controlled environments.
Infrastructure & Hardware Moves
OpenAI has also revealed some infrastructure developments to support the OpenAI new features that are being offered:
- As reported by AP News, OpenAI announced its partnership with AMD to supply high performance AI chips for its backend requirements.
- Additionally, what this move also indicates is that there are hardware sources other than the ones NVIDIA provides. This also addresses the demand for commute at scale.
Wrapping It Up
With DevDay 2025, OpenAI launched its set of OpenAI new features. From Apps inside ChatGPT, new models like Sora and GPT-5 Pro, to new partnerships. All of this is going to be soon added to OpenAI’s AI ecosystem. These new features represent how very soon everything can be achieved in one platform, and will save so much time. These details are important for developers especially as they can benefit from the platform OpenAI provides with 800+ Million users.
